Attack on Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda wasn’t created by DreamWorks, producer of the eponymous animated movie released in 2008, but by Jayme Gordon, a Massachusetts-based artist. Or at least, that’s what Gordon himself claimed in a complaint he filed against DreamWorks on 16 February.

Close affinity

At the moment it looks very much as though Gordon isn’t entirely spinning a yarn. The sketches submitted to the court, which were registered with the US Copyright Office in 2000, show a close affinity between Kung Fu Panda and Gordon’s own cartoons. So a financial settlement may well be on the cards.
