Agreement
Pattie Gonia is the stage name of 33-year-old Wyn Wiley, who has been using this alter ego since 2018. Pattie Gonia is primarily active in the fields of environmental and LGBTQ+ issues, often described as “intersectional environmentalism.” Patagonia now states that it spent three years in discussions with the drag queen to explore how she could continue using the name Pattie Gonia without infringing the well-known clothing brand’s trademark rights. “We thought we’d reached an agreement and, for a while, it worked”, according to Patagonia.

However, the conflict arose when the drag queen began selling clothing under the Pattie Gonia brand in 2024 and also used a logo that closely resembled the Patagonia logo. Adding fuel to the fire was the U.S. trademark application for the name Pattie Gonia, which the drag queen filed in September 2025, including for clothing.
Not complicated
How will this end? That doesn’t seem very complicated to me. I’m putting my money on the world-famous clothing brand. I think the main question is what will remain of Pattie Gonia? Will she only be prohibited from selling clothing under the Pattie Gonia brand, or will there be a broader ban on the use of this name by the drag queen? If the latter happens, Pattie Gonia does have an attractive Plan B: Wyn Wiley also seems like a perfectly fine name for a drag queen.
