In a major defeat for sports car manufacturer Porsche, the European General Court ruled on 6 June that two EU design registrations for the Porsche 911 (from 2004 and 2010) were invalid. To qualify for protection, a design must be new and have individual character. According to the Court, the registered design at issue lacks individual character because it is too similar to earlier versions of the Porsche 911.
