Fake Invoice Technique
The method behind the fake invoice is simple. Send the owner of a new European trademark registration an official-looking letter with a European appearance — ideally featuring a blue flag and some yellow stars. In the letter, request the new trademark owner to urgently pay €1,500 to avoid cancellation of their registration. Disappear without a trace after payment!
Difficult to Eradicate
Whether this recent defeat will deter such fraudsters in the future remains uncertain. This type of scam has been a persistent issue for decades and is notoriously difficult to eradicate.
