So it was a big surprise two years later, when Stihl, manufacturer of chainsaws and other garden equipment, did manage to register their orange-grey colour combination as a trademark. According to the European Court, the depiction of the two colours and the description “The colour orange is applied to the top of the housing of the chainsaw and the colour grey is applied to the bottom of the housing of the chainsaw” was sufficiently clear. So it is a well-deserved colour claim for Stihl. Let’s hope Europe follows suit.
