December 2018. Lego has chalked up a resounding victory in China. According to the District Court in Yuexiu, Guangzhou province, Chinese toy manufacturer Shantou Meizhi infringed the copyright of its Danish rival.

18 products

Shantou has been selling toys that look extremely like the well-known Lego brick models under its own Lepin brand. In early November, the Guangzhou Court ruled that Shantou had infringed Lego’s copyright to as many as 18 different products and a large number of puppets.

Compensation

As well as banning the further production and sale of Lepin toys, the Court ordered Shantou to pay Lego approximately EUR 600,000 in compensation.
